Abstract
Within a crowded strategic landscape overwhelmingly framed through the prism of US–China tensions, Israel’s role has been understudied rather than absent. Recent developments have indeed made Israel more visible in the region. Amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Papua New Guinea (PNG) has voiced concern for its citizens while simultaneously endorsing the Israeli and United States (US) strikes on Iran that have contributed to the escalation, and reaffirming, in its Foreign Policy White Paper, strong links with Israel. In September 2025, Fijian PM Sitiveni Rabuka inaugurated his country’s first embassy in Jerusalem, making it the second Pacific Island state to establish a diplomatic mission there.
